When I look at my users I see a large number of email address with a ? in front assume they did not reply to the request to confirm the account how can all of those be deleted

If you have a github account, you can create a «feature request» here, to ask for a «unverified email» filter in the user list.
Once this filter exists, you can then filter the user list, check all users, and use the «delete» bulk action.
