Feature Proposal: Visual Media Manager (Thumbnails + Downloadable Files)

Hello PeerTube team and community,

First of all, thank you for the amazing work you are doing with PeerTube. It is a powerful and flexible platform.

I would like to propose a new feature that could significantly improve media management within the platform.

:clapper_board: 1. Visual Multimedia Manager for Thumbnails

Currently, thumbnail management is functional but limited. It would be extremely useful to have:

  • A visual media library where all uploaded thumbnails are stored.

  • The ability to:

    • Replace thumbnails easily

    • Delete unused thumbnails

    • Reuse previously uploaded thumbnails without uploading them again

  • A gallery-style interface to quickly select and assign thumbnails to videos.

This would be especially helpful for creators managing large channels or series with consistent branding.

:open_file_folder: 2. Upload and Attach Downloadable Files (PDF and others)

It would also be very valuable to allow creators to upload additional files related to a video, such as:

  • PDF documents

  • ZIP files

  • Supporting materials

  • Presentations

  • External resources

These files could:

  • Be attached directly to a video

  • Appear in a dedicated “Resources” or “Downloads” section below the video

  • Be downloadable by viewers (with optional permissions control)

This would greatly enhance PeerTube’s use cases for:

  • Educational content

  • Conferences and congresses

  • Technical tutorials

  • Private events

  • Professional training platforms

:light_bulb: Why This Matters

These features would:

  • Improve content workflow for creators

  • Reduce duplicate uploads

  • Strengthen PeerTube as an educational and professional platform

  • Make instances more competitive with commercial video platforms

Thank you for considering this proposal. I’d be happy to discuss further or help refine the idea.

Best regards.
