It’s possible that there’s something I’m just missing. A few days ago (I think) I updated from 8.0.2 to 8.1.2 and ever since, I’ve had 10 new videos show up on my instance. This compares to what looks to be about 50 videos/day prior. 10 new videos in 3 days, versus 50 new videos per day, looks like something broke.
I’ve looked at the logs, nothing is showing up that leads me to see what is broken. I’m getting some 404 errors with various instances, fetching I think thumbnails, but I suspect this has been going on for a while, as there’s a lot of videos showing up (and has been for a while) with no thumbnails.
I ran the migration. I didn’t touch anything on the server for a while after that. I could try rolling things back, but that seems like it doesn’t work either (previous experience).
Setting up PeerTube is practically trivial, and probably 75% of the time upgrading is also. But when the upgrade doesn’t go well, it seems to go distinctly unwell. Occasionally, it seems the upgrade is “tricky, but understandably so” once you get used to figuring out what might have gone wrong. But in the past few months, I’ve now had 2 instances fail spectacularly when trying to update.
Well, I say they’ve failed spectacularly, before I can rightly say that this latest one has indeed done so. But I can say that the broken federation basically means that I’m not likely to consider the instance not really working until I find a solution.
I may just end up giving up on any kind of watching any videos except maybe OwnCast stuff, online. I’ve got media I can watch locally. And really it shouldn’t be going more toward that. But it seems like it is.
