Spotify Podcasts

Really happy to see the Apple podcasts support working well.

When I went to add the podcast feed: FediHost Podcast to Spotify though I hit the error: « We’re unable to accept podcasts with videos. »

Not sure if it’s possible to share a mixed feed with Spotify at all, or if there could be (or is) a feed like /feeds/podcast/audio.xml that will present the audio files only?

Edit: I’ve added the feed to Tune In, iHeart Radio, Simplecast, Deezer, Apple and Amazon with no problems. It’s really just a Spotify issue, which is frustrating because it’s a big audience.

Hi,

It seems some of your videos don’t have an audio only file that would make Spotify happy. For example: Mastodon Hosting Challenges - FediHost

If you want a good playback behaviour for podcasts, I suggest enabling web video transcoding with audio only resolution. Then re-run transcoding on your videos.

Thanks I’ve looked at the RSS feed and I assume the indicator that it does not have an audio only file is:

title="Audio only" default="false"

On the front end that video still let you choose « Audio » as a playback option so I assume the best way (with a UI) to check for this is to go to the Administration->Overview->Videos list and open up the podcast episodes to show the formats?

Thanks, this worked in Spotify when I re-uploaded this one video missing an audio only stream. I can’t speak to performance, but it seems that HLS encoding works in all the places that I registered this RSS feed.
