How can I force a synchronization?

I have a video that can’t be played. Where the video should be is a big black square. Below the black square is a message:

The video is being imported, it will be available when the import is finished.

Here’s the video:

I added this video from YouTube as follows:

  1. Load /videos/upload
  2. Click « Import with URL » tab
  3. Paste URL of YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahnJYDBopCc
  4. Click Import
  5. Set license to CC BY-SA (after getting permission from copyright holder, of course)
  6. Click « Publish »
  7. Wait 24 hours
  8. Still see message
  9. See no button for « retry import »
  10. Open question on forums

I’m assuming that this import just failed due to IP rate limiting by YouTube. But I would have expected for it to retry at some point in the past 24 hours.

How do I find out how many times this video has tried (and failed) to import?

How do I manually force it to try the import again?

Better: how do I tell it to automatically retry import every X minutes, so I don’t have to manually force the import again?

Update: the next day I got an alert that the import failed.

And now the URL is 404. So not only did it give-up on the import and delete the video, but it also deleted all the metadata (eg video description, license, etc) that I customized. This is extremely annoying.

I guess I should open a bug report about this. It shouldn’t give-up and delete. I should be able to trigger it to retry forever.

Can you ask your instances admins if there are some error logs?

Several months ago, Google started to block Datacenter IP on Youtube… This is really annoying for all Peertube admins, but this is a Google choice.

Is it possible to view the « synchronization » error logs without being an admin?

Some weeks ago my instance was successfully able to sync my YT channel. So I don’t think it’s totally blocked by Google; I think it’s just encountering rate limiting and it needs to retry.
