Think about instance but want to use Ads

Hi I love the idea of Peertube I have an idea for a channel but would like to use adverts to fund it

The Ads would be on the front end of the video that is chosen, is that possible?

I just wanted to find out if you can use Ads inside my instance before I put in a lot of work on this idea.

Thanks
Gerry

Hi,

I don’t think implementing ads is really what we want in PeerTube.

But you can still use the « support » description for creators on each videos with a link like utip ?

If you are in control of your instance, you can install a plugin to add such functionality. Otherwise, this is not a direction of PeerTube: https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/blob/develop/FAQ.md#are-you-going-to-support-advertisements

If you are in control of your instance, you can install a plugin to add such functionality.

But it will not work if the video is watched from another instance.

Even with the support action button ?

@JohnLivingston was answering my comment (in quotes) - the support button is a core feature, meant to be federated. It doesn’t allow anything other than text though.

There’s nothing to stop you from including an advert within your video if you chose to.

Hello Gerry, I share your opinion, basically adverts are a necessity for professional creators, unless you are rich or funded by other means.

PeerTube is missing an optional feature for submitting, streaming and processing ad revenue.

The result would mean more content - more users, and more quality content due to the emergence of competition for a share of the advertisements market.

PeerTube can expand exponentially by introducing the advertisement feature, and by making it optional it would serve all business models.

Just came across the updated policy

What is PeerTube’s policy about content monetization?

Still, making a monetization feature optional would be compatible with the core policy. Thus, it could be supported feature:

  • Core integration
  • Optional unlock, ideally with standard pre-written policies
  • Predefined standard payment gateways (i.e. Paypal, Scrips, BTC)
  • Fluid interface feature
  • Creator friendly
  • Statistics
  • Customizations, i.e. manually enabled feature for certain users
